Variable Cam Timing Phasers

BorgWarner

Variable Force Solenoid (VFS) and Oil Control Valve (OCV)

Picture

Oil pressure actuated (OPA) phaser
Suitable for all engine types

Uses standard engine oil supply pressure to actuate
Actuation rates proportional to oil supply
Enables late exhaust valve opening and early intake valve opening strategies
Large range of authority 70° cam
Reduces engine parasitic losses

Picture

OPA phaser
Suitable for all engine types

Uses remote oil control valve (OCV) to actuate
Actuation rates proportional to oil supply
Enables late exhaust valve opening and early intake valve opening strategies
Range of authority up to 70° crank
Complements overall CO2/NOx reduction strategies

Picture

Cam torque actuated (CTA) with mid-position lock (MPL) phaser

Suitable for all OHC engine types

Uses camshaft torque to actuate
Fast actuation independent of engine oil pressure or RPM
Actuates during engine cranking
Suitable for start/stop engine applications
Industry leading actuations rates
Enables late intake valve closing strategies
Available with mid-position lock
Large range of authority up to 120° crank
Reduces engine parasitic losses

TA phaser

BorgWarner’s compact TA phaser technology and variable force solenoid (VFS) use available torsion energy in addition to the engine oil pressure for a faster actuation rate of the phaser. The technology reduces oil demand and engine parasitic losses, and improves low-end engine performance.

  1. Good morning,
I found your website and I’m very interesting by your powertrain topics. But I would like to know where the pictures come from ( events?, website?). Do you give sources when you publishe pictures?
