Electric Auxiliary Compressor (eAC)

The water-cooled electric auxiliary charger is positioned on the cold side of the engine just before the entry to the charge air cooler and achieves a speed of 70,000 rpm and a pressure ratio of 1.45 within 300 ms.

The electric auxiliary compressor has a peak output of 5 kW. This allows the engine to build up boost pressure rapidly. This boost, which is independent of the engine speed, supplements the mechanical turbocharger and all but eliminates the familiar turbo lag.
