In order for the system to operate as effectively as possible, oxygen is transported to the fuel-cell stack in the cathode path via the electric air compressor.
The desired quantity of air is extracted from the ambient atmosphere and made available to the stack at the necessary pressure level for generating electricity.
The air compressor provides the desired quantity of air in combination with the power electronics. To protect the stack against contamination, the electric air compressor is oil-free. As an integral component of the power electronics, the software facilitates safe operation and a variety of diagnostic functions.
