The belt in oil allows the same degree of design freedom as the dry belt. In comparison to a chain, both designs of belt have the advantage that timing belts with an odd number of teeth can be manufactured. This means it is easier to make adjustments to the entire arrangement. In contrast, smaller sprocket diameters are possible with chains without having a detrimental effect on the operating life.
